Breakfast at Tiffany's

Breakfast at Tiffanys is most definitely the BEST MOVIE EVER!!!! I watch it...um, well I can't really tell you just how many times I've watched that movie so let's just say too much. :)
The movie tells a wonderful story about a young woman named Holly Golightly. Holly is a young woman who, on the surface is a confident and hilarious lady, determined to marry a rich man. However, the movie soon reveals a very scared, very lonely little girl who really just wants to be loved. Throughout the whole movie, she continues to run from people that truly want to love her, instead seeking out shallow relationships. She runs from love but she wants it so badly at the same time. Yet he loves her through it all. He loves her, even when her actions would drive anyone else away. He continues to love her. That reminds me of this guy I know named Jesus. He loves me always, no matter what I do. Even when I do stupid things that drive everyone else crazy, God is still in love with me.
A quote I heard once goes like this "You cannot know love unless you surrender to it." Okay, as Christians, we do know that falling in love with another person will not fulfill you...only Christ can do that. However, since God is love, we could say "You cannot know God unless you surrender to Him."
I think that we are all a little like Holly. She talks about this feeling called the mean reds:
"Listen, do you know those days when you get the mean reds?"
"You mean like the blues?"
"No. The blues are when you're getting fat, or maybe it's just been raining too long. You're just sad, that's all. The mean reds are horrible. Suddenly you're afraid and you don't know what you're afraid of. Do you ever get that feeling?"
I believe the "mean reds" are what happens when you are afraid to give yourself up. For other people. And, more importantly, for God. You have to be willing to give all of you to God. It's scary, but it's soooo worth it. Maybe I'm crazy, but I think it really makes more sense to give myself over to the creator of the universe than to the changing patterns of this very unstable world. A really good quote about surrender goes like this:
"True surrender leaves no room for retreat. It's ceasing to struggle and strive, and plot and plan, and worry and wonder. Surrender means saying 'Lord, I am all yours. I give every aspect of my life to You. Do with me whatever you want. I belong to You.' "
